MD/WV/PA hikers

Howdy fellow hikers!
A steady group of us have been hiking various trails in MD/VA/PA.
Mostly we go on Saturday mornings.
We are gearing up for the 2008 season & want to put out an invite to other Midatlantic hikers that might like to join us. Many of us are PATC members, we are all ages with varied interests. We usually do day hikes from 6 to 15miles, depending on where we're going. We plan to do section hikes of the AT from Harper's Ferry W.V. to Boiling Springs, PA. this summer as well as other trails in the tri-state area. We love to meet & hike with other outdoors people. Monongahela Wilderness Areas

Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone has done any backcountry camping in any of the wilderness areas in the Monongahela forest in WV. If so, I'm looking for any advice, recommendations, etc. I'm thinking about a couple trips this summer to do the Cranberry wilderness and others.

New to hiking. PLEASE HELP!!!

I have just recently become interested in hiking. My first goal is to hike on the Appalachian Trail in Northern VA for 3 or 4 days in September. I have gone on the hiking trails at a local state park. But other than that I don't have the foggiest idea of how to get started. What equipment, other than good hiking boots, do I need? What arrangements do I need to make? How much does it cost? How do I contact to arrange a trip like this? etc., etc.,

I need guidance. I could use a hiking buddy also.

I find that I'll take alot of pics when I go hiking and want to really apreciate the smaller aspects of Mother Nature.

Do any others treat Nature like a museum when out on a trail or such?

Old Growth in the Smokies

I'm going to Smoky Mountain National Park this weekend. Hoping to get some good shots of the leaves turning. I'm looking for two things.

1) Any nice vantage points for taking pictures of fall foliage(overlooks).

2) A really good hike to and through a nice section of Old Growth Forest(8 or 9 hour hike with camp sites).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shenandoah National Park

If you've ever been to SNP, tell us your favorite trail experience or worst trail experience. Mine is easy, my wife stepped on two water mocassins while crossing the river on White Oak Canyon. Best trail has got to be Old Rag.

Hello Hiker!

This February (2005) a local friend, bumped into 'Icebound' a truly determined and hardy thru hiker on Blueberry Hill on the AT above Greenwood Lake, New York.

Icebound, who a remarkable 173 days earlier had begun a northbound AT transit was inspired by diverse topography and hidden glades and waterfalls of the North New Jersey -Greenwood Lake trail section.

After a inspecting his 70 pound WINTER gear pack and well worn snowshoes he announced that the section of trail between New Jersey and Greenwood Lake as the most spectacular he had seen heading north....

We are very blessed and welcome you to hike with us locally.

Day hiking or AT through marching you can find a warm couch, hot coffee, free wifie bunch of new friends at the Greenwood Grind.

Bull Run Mtns. in VA

Hey all, went hiking in the Bull Run mountains near The Plains, VA over the weekend. A very nice series of trails there, with civil war era stone structures around and the occasional Blair Witch stye abandonned settler house out in the woods. Less than an hour's drive from DC. Recommended for DC residents looking for a decent day hike without having to drive half the day.

Late Fall/Winter Hikes
